  • LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates men's squash team used a combination of their top players and some younger talent as well to defeat Williams 6-3 Saturday afternoon at the Bates Squash Center in the Maine Round Robin. The No. 17 Bobcats (4-3) picked up wins at the top three spots for the second consecutive day. Carlos Ames '17 (Williamstown, Mass.) won at the No. 9 spot for the second straight match as well.The difference this time for Bates came in the form of victories for first-year Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) at the No. 6 spot and Spencer Burt '17 (Portland, Ore.) at the No. 8 spot.All but one of the matches resulted in a sweep for the winning player. The only four-set match came at the No. 3 spot with Darrius Campbell '17 (St. Stephen, S.C.) defeating Galen Squiers 3-1 (11-3, 12-10, 7-11, 11-8).At the top, defending national champion Ahmed Abdel Khalek '16 (Cairo, Egypt) won his 49th match in a row, sweeping Jamie Ruggiero 3-0 (11-7, 11-3, 11-6). Two-time All-American Ahmed Hatata '17 (Alexandria, Egypt) swept John Fitzgerald 3-0 (11-4, 11-5, 11-6).Bates will take on No. 3 St. Lawrence University Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. to conclude the Maine Round Robin.
